NCAT: Asphalt Technology CourseThis one-week training program is taught by NCAT for those involved in asphalt construction. Engineers from all sectors of the asphalt industry will gain essential knowledge of asphalt materials and construction practices to build, preserve, and maintain a sustainable highway system. Goals and ObjectivesThe purpose of this intensive course is to provide a basic understanding of all phases of asphalt technology. Upon completion, participants will be able to make informed decisions regarding asphalt pavements and communicate effectively with asphalt specialists when needed. Program ContentThis 4.5-day course includes lectures, lab demonstrations (no hands-on), and group discussions on key topics:
Lab demonstrations cover binder tests, aggregate tests, asphalt mix design (including Superpave), and performance testing. MaterialsParticipants receive a copy of the Hot Mix Asphalt Paving Handbook 2000 and a binder with printed PowerPoint presentations for future reference. Fees, Refunds, & DeadlineThe $1,500 registration fee includes the training program, materials, and breaks. Housing, meals, and transportation are not included. Payment must be made at registration. Registration closes two weeks before the course or when full. Cancellations received at least two weeks in advance receive a full refund. No refunds after that date, but substitutions are accepted. EligibilityOpen to practicing engineers from public and private sectors in the U.S. and abroad, including personnel from DOTs, FHWA, FAA, military, county agencies, consulting firms, material producers, and contractors. Continuing EducationThe course provides 36 Professional Development Hours (PDHs). LocationThis course is held at NCAT's main research facility, 227 Technology Parkway, Auburn, Alabama.
